    Hang during Checking root system

    I got Mandrake 10, sucessfully installed it with GRUB. The problem is I accidentally shut down the system incorrectly so when I booted the system up again it started checking the root filesystem.

    Your system appears to have shut down uncleanly
    Press Y within 3 seconds for force file system integrity check
    Checking root filesystem
    /dev/hda5: |===== / 11.1%

    It just stop there, I waited for over 2 hours and it not going any further.
    I restart the comp by hitting the restart button, and the check started again but hung at different percentage.
    So how can I bypass this and log into the login/password promp? Is there to skip this integrity check to get to the login promp?

    Thank For All Your Help

    Boot from alternate medium, such as a CD or floppy, and mount your file system. Then run

    Code:
    fsck
    to check and repair the filesystem.

    Ok, I able to use my Mandrake disk to boot and get this promp
    boot: _
    I typed in mount/mmt/cdrom
    But i got the the message that it can't find kernel image:mount
    So how am I able to get into the filesystem and use fsck.
    I am very new to this, specific instructions will be appreciated
