Dual Distro Booting Problems
Hi Everyone,
I'm super new to Linux, but I am picking it up very quickly. I've already loaded Red Hat several times and messed around with lots of different settings, however I'm still trying to pick up the shell.
Here's my problem.
I loaded Red Hat Enterprise and then just for kicks decided to load Fedora too, but I can't get the Fedora GRUB boot to work.
When I load Fedora or any other distro for that matter do I need to creat a new "/boot" "/" and "swap" for everyone?
I know that Enterprise and Fedora and both Red Hat distributions, but they can still run seperately right?
I also have a copy of Suse that I want to load as well.
I know it's got something to do with my grub.config and I've tried re-writing it and I'm know I'm close but I'm still off.
Any help with any of my questions would be great. So far I like what I'm seeing with Linux

no sorry that didn't help. That whole bug was in regards to Fedora Core 2
I'm using Fedora Core 1, here's some more quick notes.
I cleared the whole 160GB Hard Drive (only made for multiple Linux OS's)
I loaded down Fedora first and everything was fine with Win XP and Fedora Core 1 loading from Grub.
So I tried to install Red Hat Enterprise and I'm still no where. Even if in the Grub Utilities screen if I add the Fedora Core /boot partition to the list it doesn't boot when I select it after my system starts up.
For some reason it keeps re-writing the Fedora Core grub.config section to match that of the Win XP section.
Which is odd because their on seperate Hard Drives and I pointed it correctly in the Enterprise Grub setup.
Keep giving me ideas though people and thanks for the help.

you can share the same partition or you can create a new "/" partition to put Fedora on.
As to Grub, do you have more than one grub.conf? If so, which one are you pointing at?
have fun
Nerderello
Use Suse 10.1 and occasionally play with Kubuntu
Also have Windows 98SE and BeOS

ok cool so I only need one /boot partition for all of the Linux Os's that I want to use? That's what I'm understanding.
And I only have one grub.conf file.
Right now it has Enterprise and Windows XP on the boot screen.
I don't know what to type in the grub.conf to get Fedora on there as well, because when I auto pointed it on the install it didn't work.
