Cannot use any install cd! help!

Hi!

I find myself in the situation of having to reinstall linux.

Problem: no cd manages to install

I have now Kanotix installed (even if currently I cannot acess it because of windows re-installation). I've tried PCLinuxOS, Kubunto (both last release) and the same cd I used to install Kanotix in the first place. None work:
- Both Kanotix and Kubunto freeze after a while.
- PCLinuxOs manages to identify an error and gives me a simple console (which I have no idea what to do with)

I would post this in the forum of the distros but since it doesn't work with any I'm afraid of a more generic problem.

Is this even normal? I have a 4 year old laptop, could this be the problem

it could be graphics card problem.
at what point CDs are freezing? do CDs throw any error message?
