Install to a second hard disc.
I have a second computer that i would like to run samba on and connect a large external usb hard disc to so that i could use it as a nas box. The problem is that this computer doesn't have a working cd drive or enough ram to load a live cd. I have a dongle that allows me to mount the hard drive on to my normal computer. I would like to install some distro of linux to the hard drive using my normal computer and then take the hard drive and put it into the other computer and just let it boot normally. Is this possible and how do i do it without using a live cd?

You should be able to install one of these
DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD.
Any of the larger distributions probably won't run on that machine. How to know if you are a geek.
when you respond to "get a life!" with "what's the URL?"
