After many tries, no successful install of any linux distro
Hi! New to the forum, first post, I know my way around computers but I have always used Windows.
Heres why I need help
I tried Ubuntu live from the CD and it worked fine, sound, display and networking worked fine without me installing any drivers. I decided to install it for real on the HDD, it fails every time. So far, I have tried ubuntu, opensuse and fedora.
Heres why I looked into linux in the first place:
the machine in question is old (1.3GHz celeron processor, 512mb of RAM 128mb graphics)
It will not install any new OS than XP SP1, it even fails to install SP2 through windows update or manually from the microsoft website or as a fresh install.
I updated the BIOS from the Intel website and the same problem persists.
I really like linux and if I can get used to it on this machine then I'll probably install it on my main machine too which is currently running W7.
