cannot mount cdrw
i have 2 cd drives and just setup a dual boot with mandrake 9.1 beta2 and win98.
in /etc/fstab the cdrw drive is listed as /dev/hdc and doesn't mount.
the cd drive is listed as scd0 and mounts fine
i have tried various ways of using the mount command such as
mount - t iso9660 /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
mount -s /dev/hdc
one cd drive is fine, the other isn't. ironically i can burn cd's without a problem. but then i have to move them to the other drive if iwant to read them, not the ideal set up i had in mind.
can anyone help me, i am brand new to linux as in the past week and a half. I am trying to learn as much as i can.
thanks for the help.
Try changing hdc to scd1.
do i change that only in the /etc/fstab file, or do i need to make that change in other areas?
Nope, just in /etc/fstab.
worked like a dream, thanks so much.
do you have any advice for someone like me who is just starting out? such as good websites/books/ to learn bash scripting, and navigating linux administration?
If you want to do anything that's just the least bit common, you'll probably find a HOWTO on it on http://www.tldp.org/. Besides that, there are always the manpages and texinfo documentation. To learn about bash scripting, for example, see the texinfo docs on bash.
Otherwise, you can always ask here.
