Hello I am kind of stuck and need help, I am trying to dual boot my Dell
Inspiron 14R, and I have made a new partition so i can install windows 7
ultimate along-side with my linux mint 11. The problem is I have all the
windows files in a new file system that I made for it and when I try to
change the permissions it won't let me check (allow executing file as
program). I don't know why and I would like to fix it, any help would be
great.
It isn't clear exactly what you are trying to do. You said you created a separate partition "so i can install windows 7" and later "I have all the windows files in a new file system". So what files do you have? Have you installed windows 7 or not? Are you trying to execute windows files from Linux?

After reading your post, I have to ask...
How did you get the files over to the new partition?
Was it through a Windows install? Or did you simply copy them over from a Windows 7 disc?
I have a 500GB hard drive and i split it in half and I have windows 7 on a dvd disc and i moved all the files to a new filesystem after I split my hard drive and when i try to change the permissions on setup.exe, I try to click on the check box (allow executing file as program) and it won't let me and I can't figure out why. sorry if it didn't make sense, basically i'm trying to dual boot linux mint 11 with windows 7 ultimate
and I wanted to split my hard drive so half is dedicated to linux while the other half is dedicated to windows for my classes in college.
I see. That method, however, won't work.
You'll need to actually run the installer from the disc.
Just make sure to tell Windows where you want to install to.
Also, Windows will over-write your MBR and GRUB bootloader, so you'll need to re-install GRUB afterward.
