I was wondering, what do I need to do in order for linux to recognize my cd drive as a cdrw? I currently own a IDE cdrw and would like to enable this. I do recall something about scsi emulation and putting something in grub.conf file but I can't remember all the details.
That's right, since all cd writing programs that I know of use SCSI, you have to emulate it. Just pass ide-scsi=<dev> (where <dev> is eg. hdc) to the kernel, and be sure to load the ide-scsi module (or have it compiled into the boot kernel) and you'll be fine.
