Hi,
I have an IDE hard drive with nothing on and an 80gig SATA hdd with windows on. In the bios the IDE takes priority over SATA in the boot order. If I was to install linux on the IDE which hard drive should take prioroty? Because when I previously tried it with this configuration I could load Linux from GRUB but not windows (the option was there but it wouldnt load). Any ideas on the matter would be great.

I'm getting over being new to Linux but I THINK - I could be wrong - that windows has to have the master boot record in order for it to boot. In other words, yes, your SATA drive should have presedence. I have both Windows and Debian GNU/Linux on my computer (but only one hd). I think Debian's intallation would let you do what you want without much hassle therefore, so should the others distros but I wouldn't know.
