Hi everyone
I need help. I have laptop which i need to install Redhat Linux 9.0 on it, but the problem is each time i stick the cd in, i've got a screen saying that no cdrom has not been found. My question is; did i do something wrong? :shock:

How did you aquire that copy of linux? Was it downloaded from the internet and burned to a CD?
Or did you buy it along with a book and possibly some other tools?

If you downloaded it from the internet did you get 3 big ass files, or hundreds/thousands of smaller files?

If you got the huge files then you need to burn them as an image to the CD (See your burning software for instructions, if you use Nero (I personly recomend this package for windows users) you can go to File, then Burn Image.)

If you just burned the .iso file to the CD it will not read it as a bootable CD and all you will see on the disk is just the .iso file.

Also. there is a way to create floppy boot disks to start the install. I'm not familar with how to do this. I've alwase been able to boot from the CD.

the boot diskette stuff can be found in CD 1 in the DOS utiles folder. There are also instructions (in a README file) which tell you to do a rawrite (exe is also in the Dos utiles folder). Full description is here :-

BUT, you should be able to boot off CD1 and not have to do this. Does your PC's BIOS allow CDROM booting?

1- I download those cd's off the Internet
2- I burn those cd's using roxio easy cd creator 5
3-those have had been burnt as images

Have you tried using bootdisk? And is your cdrom before the harddisk in the boot process in your BIOS?

yes i did do that and it is still doing the samething

do you have any other bootable CD's, maybe a Windows CD that was supplied with your PC? Put it in the CD drive and restart the PC, does it boot from the CD?

yes it does boot up from a windows cd

and you say you've tried the linux boot disks?

is Microsoft releasing laptops now (or paying off other manufacturers) to build something in that blocks linux (joke) ?

Did you verify that the .iso's were good?
