HP Scanner and Printer issues

I installed Suse 9.0 Pro and most things seem to work, but not my scanner or printer.

The scanner was listed in the driver list, it's a USB device, and the software installed, but when I click the scanner icon or try to import and image, nothing happens. All it does is show an hour glass for about 30 seconds. I rebooted, turn my scanner on and off and still no luck.

My printer is on a parallel port and it finds my printer. They have a huge list of drivers, but just skip right over my HP 820cse driver. I tried installing another driver, sometimes works, but it didn't let me.

I have many more questions, but I want to get these two resolved first.

what scanner program are u using?

i haev had a coupel of HP scanners working with xsane, also coudl u run it from a terminal and see if it gives u error messages.

the printer... do u have cups, or some other print server installed and turned on.

can u get it to print anything? or are just certain programs not going.
