Right now I have a computer with just Windows XP on it and I want to make a live usb stick with Debian on one partition (live install), a knoppix distro (for recovery) on another and another would be just fat or fat32 with my data and programs.
Is it even possible to install GRUB on a USB stick and are there any partition tools that are free and work with USB sticks?
Its possible to install GRUB in USB disk and most of Partition Managers support USB sticks too. Have you tried PartedMagic?
I wont suggest you to install multiple distros in USB stick because of its limited read/write cycles.

Most of LiveCD distros automount all available partitions. Read/Write will not be confined to specific area because whole stick will be read on each boot up.Quote:

Anyways, its easy to stop automount by editing /etc/fstab file.
