md5 sums under WinXP
i downloaded slackware 8.1 iso the othe day, but it turned out to be corrupt, i know that i could use the checksum.md5 program to check if the download was successful, but i don't know how to do it under winXP!! could someone please tell me............thanx in advanc...could someone also tell me which is the best out of the 3 linux distrubutions that i am considering downloading.....Slackware 8.1, RedHat 8.0, or Mandrake (the latest version)??
checksum.md5 isn't a program, it's a file containing the pre-calculated checksum (open it with notepad). You'll need a program for Windows to calculate the checksum of the ISO that you downloaded, and compare that to what's in the file.
http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/verifyiso.html <-- that should tell you what to do. good luck w/ slack 8.1 ;)
(yes, I woted slack)
