old compaq tc1100? boot problems...

have a compaq series tc1100? its a tablet pc meh


it had windows and ubuntu 10.10 on it side by side and i went to remove both and just put ubuntu on it alone.so i put my cd in the external drive and installed ubuntu. everything was awsome until it finished installing and rebooted... after the usual compaq screen there was a blank screen with just the flashing _ at the top.

meh any ideas? im trying to reinstall now


now i have reinstalled and wtf it has the gnu grub screen up....................meh it says something about pressing tab and if i do a long list of things i dont understand pops up...


reinstalling again with different cd rom and going to use multiple partitions this time.....

How much RAM in your machine at the moment?
Too little RAM -- upgrade to at least one gig, since you may have as little as 256MB stock!
Meanwhile, antiX (Debian-based), PCLXDE-mini (Mandriva-based) or absolute (Slackware-based) are decent choices for your severly resource-limited TC1100!

well first off im 100% sure i have over a gig of ram i upgraded it to the max you can you that tablet. second i read last night of people having simaliar problems getting 10.10 to work on that tablet, so i went to install 10.04 and it got half way thru the install (63%) and locked up.... keep in mind i had windows 7 on this tablet prior to this. however i have seen videos where people are running 10.04 and have been told it doesntly usually ever hang up on the tablet. infact i have been reading tutorials (while ive been trying to install multiple times) on how to make the pen work with ubuntu. now ive basicly memorized the **** i have to type into the terminal because ive been bored and read it off like 12 different sites... meh :confused:


i just dont want to go back to windows 7 because i know if i can get ubuntu to work it will run twice as fast and speed is a major factor for me right now as the slower it goes the more money its costing me to use this at work and i dont have the funds to purchase a new tablet.

i want to go with ubuntu because i know it will work with this tablets pen and i know how to make it work by all means this tablet should run ubuntu i mean hell it has better stats right now then my netbook that is running 10.10. i also want ubuntu because ive been using it on my other computers for a bit and it seems to be a perfect replacement for windows. i know how to use it. it has sped all my other computers up and god knows im having less errors. if i can just get it on this tablet then i can copy back the files i need and bam! itll run like new i just know it.

Have you tried using ther alternate install CD for Ubuntu? Not familiar with your tablet as I don't own one. So just a suggesstion.

Edit. I should mention their are XFCE versions of alternate install cd besides Gnome and if you have the patience and knowledge there is a minimal install image of Ubuntu also.

... i hate being a noob at this argh... ok i got 10.04 installed but now i need the driver for the pen and the nvidia to work properly


i had basicly memorized the things i needed to type in BUT i seems the place the iles were had changed or something...... anyway i got 10.04 to install the nvidia driver

when i open the settings for it, it says to enter sudo nvidia-xconfig when i do that it creates the all important config file *yay* or not meh... ok when it starts it tells me something is wrong and i need to start up in low graphics mode when i check the conf file it is empty and when i go to edit a package in the package manager it says it cant do anything while another package manager is open even tho there is only one open. when i open it in ubuntu software manager and try to install the other parts it needs it says it has previously {almost} been installed and i need to repair it. it didnt actually use the exact words i used i kinda simplifyed stuff. i dont have any idea what to do. i know this can be done ive seen it done, but for some damn reason the linux god hates me.... so far ive been able to overcome the obstacles in my way im sure i can finish it tommorow when im more awake and smart. but any help would be awsome. meh

It probably says another package manager is open because you left the nvidia hardware installer open or terminal was in apt-get mode is all I can guess from the post you just made. When running a package manager. Make sure terminal is closed first before opening package manager in Ubuntu.

it was right after a reboot i was 100% sure nothing was open... im new to linux, not stupid rofl

i managed to remove the driver and reinstall it, however now the computer freezes at the purple ubuntu loading screen. i may have to start all over and reformat the damn thing yet again........

i tried to install pclinuxos on it and it froze right after loading all its little ****. im going to get ubuntu to work on here one way or another. i heard of a netbook remix of 10.04? is it any good? all i need as far as hard setting up is pen usage (i dont even really give a damn about screen rotation), virtual keyboard, and the video drivers to work so it doesnt feel like its moving slow.

now it has 2 gigs of ram, the stock 1ghz processor,i changed the wlan card to a faster one i got off ebay (probably the reason im having trouble with ubuntu finding my wlan)

look all i need is a basic draw on it tablet that i can edit with open office, look at pdfs, browse internet, and connect to bluetooth devices( such as my droid) to send files. i dont need anything super fancy it just has to work and it needs to be easy enough to operate that my less tech savy co-workers can use it from time to time. so if anyone knows of another os that might work quickly and easily tell me and ill be glad to give it a try. i swear its like the tablet itself is trying to fight me.
