i've downloaded something like, "MPlayer-1.0pre3.tar.bz2"
and if i open it and try to extract the files, after a while i always get an error saying "fileroler has crashed'...
and another thing, when i want to register to RHN i get an error that says that i couldn't register my username... also an error that says "Error connecting to RHN ...
problems ... :(
Are you shure that you downloaded the whole file, not just a partial download?
If you want, try to give this a try:
"tar xvjf file.tar.bz2"
If that fails too, try to re-download the mplayer tarball..
Since you talked about RHN, I'm assuming you're using redhat. If so, you might want to try downloading the RPM instead. Here's a link to the same file as an RPM.
i allready tryed the rpm, when i dubbelclick on it some window flashes up and closes so fast that i can't read it... (something like, "preparing system update")
RPMs are better installed by comand line.
Open a terminal and su to root. then go to the rpm's directory and enter the following "rpm -ivh [filename]" That'll install (or try to) the rpm. The -ivh means "install" "verbose" and "hash" respectively. It'll tell you in it fails any dependancies and what went wrong.
Do a quick search here on installing mplayer, and I think you'll find you're not the only one that's experienced problems installing it. Sorry I can't shed more light on how to help you out - I gave up on trying to install mplayer myself a while ago.
