problems with multi boot
i've been trying to install multiple linux distros but some are not working. so far i have the following
ubuntu - edit: now works
gentoo - hangs on install from live cd
mandriva - hangs after booting from cd, before any option to make changes
installed but need help with:
debian - installed, need to get to GUI
all are latest versions. my system is an a7n8x-e 2800+ 2x512 dual channel one ide hdd. if anyone knows how i can get them installed or get to the gui in debian i'd appreciate the help
for Gentoo I would suggest against using the livecd it is known to cause many people headaches. Use either the minimal install cd or the universal install cd and then follow the gentoo handbook.
With Debian it depends on the install you did. You may need to install the X server and a window/desktop manager like kde or gnome.
if you get command not found then you need to install X. If the command is found and doesn't work then you need to set up your xorg.conf file which you can do with the command
to install X you can look at this thread
thanks for the reply, i'll have another go after..
i have another problem now. i can't seem to create any new partitions. from the debian setup and from ubuntu's disk utility the remaining free space on my drive is inaccessible. my drive is like this:
/boot - primary partition
/swap - primary
/ - suse, primary
/ - fedora volume
/ - ubuntu volume
free space, inaccessible
