I have looked around for this and found some websites but nothing definite.
I recently bought a new mobo and it has two serial ATA inputs on it eventually I will dump my 80G and 60G ide's and switch them, I use red hat 9.
Does anyone know if it is supported or is it still experiemental and I will need different drivers.

I'm not so sure about this new standard, but I was under the impression that it used the same CPU<->chipset protocol as normal IDE chipsets. Does anyone know which organization developed it, so that I can look at it?

There are a lot of people saying that there are a lot of things that aren't supported in Linux, so if I were you, I wouldn't just go by that. Since it says that SATA is backwards compatible, I guess it is. But on the other hand, just check on http://www.linux-ide.org/ so that your SATA chipset is supported. It will probably get you extra advantages anyway.

I will continue to look into it, a friend of mine owns a computer store and his co-worker is a heavy linux user so I will ask him too. Thanks for your input.
