whenever i try to run a software installa tion using a tarball i get to the par where you run
the ./configure and it runs but just stops at the point where its suppose to use or make a a config file ....
it just ends like this
creating src/ui/shell/Makefile
creating script/oms-config
creating dist/redhat/pkg.spec
creating include/config.h
nothing else just that
I am running redhat 9.
please advice

did you install the development packages?
otherwise if you want an easy way to install packages in rh9, see the atrpms page of the guide in my sig below
Are you sure that it isn't really done? What more files did you expect it to create?
Were those the only files that it created, or was it just an excerpt of the four last ones? It those were the only ones, then I agree that there is something wrong, since it should at least create a root Makefile. Check what it says in that end of config.log.
Nope Dolda thats it, it just abruptly stops at that last line you see there.
nothing more thing less. No errors, it just returns me back to the root prompt # I would at least expect it to tell me to go to hell but it doesnt even do that. Yes, have installed the development packages. It does check for it and it turns out just fine. I am using root to do the install
as far as RPMs go all I have to say is "RPM Dependecy Hell" more often the not they fail, thank you though for your advice it is greatly appreciated
