Sound Card / MB Problem?
I built a new machine recently and was really hoping to use Linux preferrably OpenSuse or Ubuntu).
The Motherboard I purchased is a P5KPL-CM. Everything works very well except that the built in sound card is not detected and does not work. Is there a work around for this. Thanks in advance.
I searched the web and the only linux review I found said that the VIA chip is not supported on linux. If you check for linux compatibility first, you may be able to find an add-in card that works with linux.[url]
http://www.linux-drivers.org/[url] has many links for hardware searches.
[code]aplay -l[code] will tell you if linux recognises your sound card.
I have an Intel MB and Linux supports its HD sound chip set very well. I'm listening to some nice tunes streamed from WDCB outside of Chicago right now.
