Welcome to the forums!
You can delete the partitions, or install another distribution right over them.
Not to sound dumb but how do I delete the partitions so that i can reinstall xp on this laptop.
I then will put linux on my mac and run in a VM machine to practice
thanks again
chris
The PartedMagic LiveCD is a very good tool for working with partitions, and it's easy to use:
Parted Magic
If you should need to remove GRUB from the master boot record (MBR), you can use the SuperGRUB LiveCD for that:
Super Grub Disk Webpage: Home Page
It's a great utility for working with GRUB, LILO, and Windows bootloaders.
you should just be able to pop in your windows xp cd, boot, and then delete the partitions and install windows without any problems
