Upgrading from Suse 9.3 to 10.2

Hi, I'm new to linux (and this site), but I'm a computer technician at my university (mostly windows computers) but I'm responsible for upgrading 5 Suse Linux computers from 9.3 to the current 10.2 OS. I need to make sure all the settings, software, user accounts (about 30 of them), and data files all remain in place and intact. I've done a few linux installations from a freshly formatted hard drive, but nothing where i've just needed to upgrade and retain everything.

How do I go about doing this? Is there an option when booting from the installation DVD to do this?

it will be a bit time consuming to upgrade. a lot of things are changed 10.2. you might get problems. backup data and give it a shot.

can anyone tell me what I should be backing up to retain all user account settings? Like which configuration files? This whole Linux thing is confusing...:???:

you have to copy all the data in User's Home folder. check this thread.
