You could try installing a third party boot manager such as GAG.
If grub states that it cannot find the ifle it means that you are not accessing the right partition.Quote:

Have you tried using the find command ?
When i did this on SuSE, i jus put the install CD's in, went to manual installation and then in there somewhere there's a boot from hard disk option. select this, and select the / partition to boot from. Then when i'm into linux, i jus goto yast, and reinstall GRUB there we go, everything's sorted. U will need to reboot tho as some services will not startup off the install CD.
boot from the Mandrake 10 install CDs, hit F1 for more options, type "rescue", then once it loads, select reinstall LILO. simple as that.
