    Problem with freezing and kernel errors

    Hi,

    i have a some questions, because i can not find out some solution for this, maybe here you will can help me.

    We have problems with servers (Fedora 6 / x86_64) , they are freezing and we can't understand where is the problem. sometimes in the logs we get messages like this:

    We get this kind of messages. we tested for bad rams and rootkis, everything is ok. And the main problem is that when the server is frozen, it doesn't logged what is happening after restart, we can't see what is wrong.

    What can we do in this situation, how to understand which aplication make the problems with out-of-memory?

    There writes killed mysql or irqbalance, but sometimes i suppose this is not right, or maybe i'm wrong...

    I hope that you will help me to solve these problems

    Thanks in advanced!

    >>> ntpd invoked oom-killer: gfp_mask=0x201d2, order=0, oomkilladj=0
    This is kicking an oom "out of memory" which usually happens when a process starts taking huge amount of RAM and freezes the system. In your case this looks like it is ntpd. Try disabling ntpd and check if the system works fine. If yes then you can upgrade to new version, if no then follow what the oom-killer says.
    Also check if the swap is enabled or not using # swapon -l

    Hi again, yes it shows ookiler killed ntpd, but with this message i got message for mysq and httpd too. afterward i saw the results from top (mysql cpu usage was 175%) . i suppose mysql is out-of memory, now i'm checking for innodb optimization because it takes the memory and cpu ... i checked the swap -

    Filename Type Size Used Priority
    /dev/mapper/VolGroup00-LogVol01 partition 2031608 72 -1

    we have installed 4GB Ram and 2GB Swap
