Download a patch from git.kernel.org (help needed)
I hope all is well and it's good to be part of the forum.
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron on my Thinkpad T61. The current kernel 18.104.22.168 has a version of the wifi driver iwl3945. This version doesn't activate the wifi LED. (22.214.171.124 doesn't have the fix either. Maybe 2.6.26.x will.)
(I know what you're thinking: He wants to recompile his kernel over an LED? Yeah. I'm probably nuts, but it's more the learning experience that I'm after.)
A patch has been created and is located here:
git.kernel.org - linux/kernel/git/rchatre/iwlwifi-2.6.git/commit
I have downloaded several files from the above link that end in tar.gz but I get the following error when I try and open them:
gzip: stdin: not in gzip format
tar: Child returned status 1
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors
I want to download the patch. My current path to resolving this problem is to download the patch using git (which I've installed). How would I download the patch only from the above link using git?
Is there another way to get the patch from the above site?
Thanks for your help. I hope everyone is having a nice day.
