    Kernel rebuild issue

Follow the Kernel for Newbies on how to recompile the kernel. Made it through but when I reboot it does a couple of weird things 1) I get verbose output even though i have quiet set in menu.lst and 2) it hangs at the mount root filesystem step. Does that ring any bells as to what I may have screwed up?

No idea about the first as I never use quiet (and usually get rid of it on systems that have it). The second issue sounds like the usual problem of the filesystem modules being compiled as seperate modules instead of being compiled into the kernel. What is the error message, or last (couple of) message/s printed to the screen?
