CPU Throttling Not Working with powernow-k8
Hi,
I have a HP6735s Laptop, AMD Turion X2 and when running on high load for long periods it eventually overheats. I run a video encoder to make it work really hard and the processor goes to full 2.1GHZ and stays there even when temp crawls upwards of 95degC. Pause the video encoder and temp happily falls back.
I understand it is supposed to throttle the processor back on high temp.
rmmod powernow-k8, makes machine slow down (albeit gnome ondemand indicator still shows 2.1ghz), video encoder runs slowly, but processor runs coolest point 60degC. So this way its running too slow
from lsmodCode:cat /proc/acpi/processor/CPU0/throttling state count: 8 active state: T0 state available: T0 to T7 states: *T0: 100% T1: 87% T2: 75% T3: 62% T4: 50% T5: 37% T6: 25% T7: 12%
Code:cpufreq_ondemand 15504 2 powernow_k8 24836 0 freq_table 12928 2 cpufreq_ondemand,powernow_k8
The only thing I can find wrong isCode:uname -r 2.6.27.25-170.2.72.fc10.x86_64
The machine has the latest BIOS software, but wondering if ACPI was broken. My battery on this machine under linux goes from 19 min and just switches off machine (hard off) no shutdown.Code:ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN0] to D3 ACPI: Fan [FAN0] (off) ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN1] to D3 ACPI: Fan [FAN1] (off) ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN2] to D3 ACPI: Fan [FAN2] (off) ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN3] to D3 ACPI: Fan [FAN3] (off) processor ACPI0007:00: registered as cooling_device4 ACPI: Processor [CPU0] (supports 8 throttling states) processor ACPI0007:01: registered as cooling_device5 ACPI: Thermal Zone [CPUZ] (72 C) ACPI: AC Adapter [AC] (on-line) ACPI: Battery Slot [BAT0] (battery present) ACPI: WMI: Mapper loaded ACPI: Video Device [IGFX] (multi-head: yes rom: no post: no) HDA Intel 0000:00:14.2: power state changed by ACPI to D0 ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN2] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [ffff88013fa4da00] 'on' ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN2] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [ffff88013fa4da00] 'on' ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN2] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [ffff88013fa4da00] 'on' ACPI: Transitioning device [FAN2] to D0 ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [ffff88013fa4da00] 'on'
Any ideas greatly appreciated.
