Yes. Linux is licensed under the GPL license, which makes it Free Software.
You can modify, copy and run it as you see fit without limitations.
If you choose to distribute the software however, you may do so only under the very same license. Especially, this means that you must offer access to the source code to anybody you distribute the software to.Debian GNU/Linux -- You know you want it.
