What happens in the installation of .deb file?

    Hi!
I want to know what happens when we install a .deb file?
Using gdebi,we can find the list of files included in the "Included Files" tab.
When we click install,if it just extracts all those files from the root / or any other processing done by the OS?

This is not really a kernel question.

A .deb package contains additional information beside the actual binary files.
Like which other packages have to be installed, or what commands are to be run before/after the files are extracted.
