    Compiling new kernel (Solved)

    Hi All,

I have installed a VMware image for CentOS on winXP. I have updated the kernel version for the CentOS. But when i run again the "uname -r"command the result show me the old kernel version and not the new kernel version. I tried to run the "make menuconfig" command but it also gave me error.

Please see the attached error screen shot.

Please help me to compile the new kernel.

    Thanks and regards,
    Saurabh.

    Hi Mike,

I would like to ask one queation.
As said I have CentOS Vmware image on my winXP and i have updated the kernel version also. So can I use this same kernel to practice kernel development (programming) on the same OR will I have to download and install complete new kernel only?

    Thanks and regards,
    Saurabh.

Yes, I believe you can use the same kernel for practice.
