    Talking Kernel Configuration "match support" and "lenght match support"?

    Hi folks,

    I'm just curious and want to know what is the "match support" or "lenght match support" under the Kernel configuration menu (v2.6.35) e.g. Networking Support -> Networking options -> Network packet filtering framework (Netfilter) -> Core Netfilter Configuration -> "string" match support and "tcpmss" match support etc.

    Thanks for taking your time!
    Charles

    P.S. Sorry for duplicated post (I have posted on a wrong section ).

    Running "make xconfig", this is what shows up on the help page for those two options:
    "string" match support (NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_STRING)

    CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_STRING:

    This option adds a `string' match, which allows you to look for
    pattern matchings in packets.

    To compile it as a module, choose M here. If unsure, say N.

    Symbol: NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_STRING [=m]
    Prompt: "string" match support
    Defined at net/netfilter/Kconfig:906
    Depends on: NET [=y] && INET [=y] && NETFILTER [=y] && NETFILTER_XTABLES [=y] && NETFILTER_ADVANCED [=y]
    Location:
    -> Networking support (NET [=y])
    -> Networking options
    -> Network packet filtering framework (Netfilter) (NETFILTER [=y])
    -> Core Netfilter Configuration
    -> Netfilter Xtables support (required for ip_tables) (NETFILTER_XTABLES [=y])
    Selects: TEXTSEARCH [=y] && TEXTSEARCH_KMP [=m] && TEXTSEARCH_BM [=m] && TEXTSEARCH_FSM [=m]
    "tcpmss" match support (NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_TCPMSS)

    CONFIG_NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_TCPMSS:

    This option adds a `tcpmss' match, which allows you to examine the
    MSS value of TCP SYN packets, which control the maximum packet size
    for that connection.

    To compile it as a module, choose M here. If unsure, say N.

    Symbol: NETFILTER_XT_MATCH_TCPMSS [=m]
    Prompt: "tcpmss" match support
    Defined at net/netfilter/Kconfig:919
    Depends on: NET [=y] && INET [=y] && NETFILTER [=y] && NETFILTER_XTABLES [=y] && NETFILTER_ADVANCED [=y]
    Location:
    -> Networking support (NET [=y])
    -> Networking options
    -> Network packet filtering framework (Netfilter) (NETFILTER [=y])
    -> Core Netfilter Configuration
    -> Netfilter Xtables support (required for ip_tables) (NETFILTER_XTABLES [=y])
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
