is it safe to upgrade from kernel 2.2.20 straight to 2.6.10
can someone tell me if the problems I have been having trying to upgrade from kernel 2.2.20 to 2.6.10 are because I have to upgrade through the kernel tree and not just skip the versions in between. please help.

Erm, what problems are you haveing? I don't see why you should not be able to upgrade like you are doing.

Without knowing the exact problem you are having it is very hard to help you, so would it be possible for you to tell us what problems you ar having when trying to upgrade the kernel?

See the file Documentation/Changes in the 2.6.x source tree. That has a list of minimum requirements for a 2.6.x kernel.
