I think I see what you mean, since current kernel are larger than a floppy. I believe that the assumption is that all machines in use have a new connection.
I've see this type of thinking for NIC drivers developers that the drv's won't fit on floppy as well. I installed a older card only temporary and then downloaded the driver I wanted to remove the older card and install the new. You may also need a unique solution as well or someone smarter than me (not hard) that has a better solution. Good luck.Dan
