Wink compile kernel in Suse 10.2

I have SUSE Linux 10.2 installed. I need to build a kernel with only the useful services and knock off the rest of them. I need to modify the kernel source and recompile. Can some one please guide me on this ? I am new to kernel compilation.

I'm trying to do the same thing.

Well, I'm not trying to install the smallest Kernel. I am just trying to recompile the Kernel.

    I followed the walkthrough here:
    http://www.freeos.com/articles/2589/
But, my linux was crashed after this compilation. I had to some repair from boot DVD.

Tomorrow I will try following this article:
    http://www.howtoforge.com/kernel_compilation_suse
or any other one I find better.

I also downloaded Fedora Core 4 that I have the working instructions of recompiling. I will install that to my old desktop and will try there.
