Cannot Mount Hard Drive
Hello all,
I am new to linux and new to this forum.
I have a problem with booting linux after the first reboot when I first install SuSe 9.2. It works fine after the first boot, but the second boot brings up a message saying:
Reiser FS: hdf2: warning: sh-2029: reserfs read_bitmaps: bitmap block (#4685824) reading failed.
Kernel Panic: not syncing: VFS unable to mount root fs on unknown-block (33,66)
I have seen a lot of posts about this matter, but haven't found anything that's worked.
I tried booting with knoppix, and knoppix identifies all my hard drives but it cannot mount the hdf2 (the hard drive partition that holds SuSe 9.2).
The message I get when trying to open hdf2 in knoppix is:
Could Not mount device. The reported error was:
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hdf2, or too many mounted file system.
I used the Qtpartition (i forgot the name :? ) and it identifies the hard drive as having reiser FS paritition. I tried to fix the system by using SuSe's file system repair and it indicates that the reiser file system is corrupt. I have reinstalled SuSe 9.2 numerous times and get the same result after the 1st reboot.
Any suggestions? Bad hard drive?
Thanks in advance for the help.

It sounds like a bad hard drive, you can check this via Knoppix with the command in the console, to learn about this command and how to use it, type in a terminal.

Thanks for the reply.
I had a feeling it might be a bad hard drive. I'm going to try to install suse on a different computer and see how it goes.
