Kernel 2.4.27 wont boot!
i've a slack 9.0 with a 2.4.20 kernel and i'm trying to compile the 2.4.27 kernel..
i did every step @kernel newbies..
cp arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.0
cp System.map /boot/System.map-2.4.0
&'course.. edited my lilo.conf file
image = /boot/vmlinuz-2.4.0
label = 2.4.0
root = /dev/hda3
none of the steps gave me any warning...
though when i reboot my system.. it enters into a "lilo loop " 'cause.. as it gives me the option of choosing between my old kernel and my new one.. every time i select 2.4.27.. it reboots and enters again into my lilo..
any help??? I'm becoming crazy with this!! :shock:
Did you run lilo after you edited the config? :shock:
Odd that you make this topic because I tried booting 2.4.27 today but it didnt' boot either.
I get an error saying:
Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root FS on 03:02
it might be a release error, no doubt there is a solution, but you might want to consider a more modern kernel if you are going to go through the trouble of upgrading....
