There are usually boot options you can try like nopcmcia etc, when you first switch the system on you should get a prompt and something like F1 for help. Try reviewing the help and try some of the boot options. I'm sure you will get things working now you have a good CD.

Ed: make a note of error messages or the last couple of lines of text before the system freezes.

The option that sorted me out when Ubuntu had this problem was noapic. I had
to add it to the end of the options at boot. I have never used Knoppix so I can't
help with specifics on how to do that.

I gave you some data on the boot. I cannot access HELP with F1 while this is occuring.
Here are the last few lines which come at the end before it freezes:

- Scanning for hard disk partitions and creating /etc/fstab ... Done
- Network device Eth0 detected, DHCP broadcasting IP. (backgrounding).
- Network device Eth1 detected, DHCP broadcasting IP. _

and here it stops. there is that line after the line that I put with the "_".

Thanks
Emmanuel

Have a look at this

apparently you would type

knoppix noapic

at the boot prompt

Try the tips & tricks in order towards the bottom of the page ... it should allow you to track down the issue quickly ... you may find its an issue with your network adapter since that is the point it seemed to freeze based on some of your previous posts.

Ed: Sorry just to be clear ... trips & tricks on the web page referenced in the above post ... elija gave in post #16 and ozar gives in post #20.

Sorry but I am completely lost. I don't see what you mean by Tips and Tricks. where? on this website? I looked at what Elija said with the different Commands but I seem to be able to find the source yet?
Thanks for your help. If you can tell me where to find the Tips and tricks.

He's talking about at the bottom of this page:

Cheat Codes - Knoppix Documentation Wiki

The link is posted above, but you might have missed it.
