Question Corrupt Buffalo NAS Filesystem

Hi all, hope you can help. I use a Buffalo NAS on a Windows XP system. Drive has Word docs and the like on. The Buffalo seems to have a corrupt filesystem and I can't access the files. With a bit of guidance I have used Insert Security to look at the HDD directly and it can see the files on it. It can recover them to RAMDISK but this soon fills up (about 800Mb of stuff to recover). Any guidance or advice for a complete novice as to how I can transfer these files to an external USB HDD or memory stick? If I can transfer the files, will I be able to read them from Windows programmes? I have a copy of Diskinternals Linux Reader if that's any use?

Any info very much appreciated!!!

Mike.
