Exclamation Help im A n00b to linux

yea hi im probably gonna sound like a noob saying this but i just got dsl or knoppix ( soz dunno which my friend got them for me) and it boot and its like black and white ms-dos style with A:/ (which can be changed) well i wanna know is that it or am i doing some thing wrong

P.S im running off a live dvd its about 50mb and you can contact me at Billy_isme@hotmail.com

Welcome to the forums!

It sounds like that is probably Damn Small Linux if it's 50 megs in size.

You can try running startx from the command line to see if you get a GUI.

If that doesn't work, you might have to try using some of the kernel boot options available through the F-keys right before the CD/DVD begins to boot into the working system.

Is there any particular reason you want to use a lightweight distribution like Damn Small Linux?
Post your PC specifications if you want to see our opinions on which distributions you could try.
If your PC is very old, you could try Puppy Linux.
