New to Knoppix

Hi

Recently I downloaded knoppix and burned it on a CD. I am attending
Fedora Linux 8 classes in one computer training institute. I would like to know whether I should install Fedora Linux to get a real Linux environment or Knoppix will suffice.

1)I need help in configuring the Internet settings in Knoppix.
In Windows XP I use the Internet properties(TCP/IP) properties option
to set

IP Address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
Primary and secondary DNS

First I would like to know how to identify the hardware installed in my system in Knoppix. I use an external ethernet Dlink network card as my Onboard Lan is not working. I need help in identifying the dlink card and enter the configure information. Any help Please on configuring the network settings.

Regards
Srinivas

Welcome to the forums!

Knoppix can certainly be installed to the hard disk, but it was not originally designed for that purpose.

Check the link in my signature for lots of good information on getting started with Linux. You'll find a couple of quizzes there than can help you to pick a distribution.

If you are attending Fedora classes, I'd recommend installing Fedora.

Hope it all goes well for you and you have lots of fun with it.
