I have an old machine I'd like to set up to pipe streaming music to my stereo, but DSL isn't seeing my sound card. I re-seated it in its slot and it didn't change anything.

I've read through similar problems discussed in the forums and I've run a few programs I hoped would clear things up. Here's what I ran:

*modprobe.snd yields:
modprobe: Can't locate module snd

*added snd to the end of /etc/modules (soundcore was already present)

*alsaconf yields:
modinfo: /lib/modules/s.4.31/kernel/sound/acore/snd.o is not owned by root
modinfo: snd: no module by that name found
(repeated three times)

alsaconf also said the /var/temp/alsaconf.cards file was missing.

*lspci yields:

From what I can see, it's simply not detecting the card. The sound card is a Reveal SC400 rev 3 (as printed on the chips on the card itself). As this machine is an old hand-me-down, I've got none of the documents or manuals.

I'm a new Linux user hoping to learn the ropes. In a DOS environment I'd know where to look to see where the card should be detected, but Linux is a new language to me. I'd like to get this little thing licked so I can go back to playing with Xubuntu on my bigger machine.

Can anyone give me some help getting the sound running on this old beast?
