Hard drive

Hello guys,
I have a machine that crashed like three days ago, the box is not booting it says that there is a problem with the hard drive, I tried to boot the box using ubutu but I got another message saying that the hard drive is not working, I did it with Knopix and it worked, but I cant see where is the hard drive, the thing is that I have very important information there and I need that information, the box was using windows, where is that info? where can I look for that info?\

Thanks in advance

If the drive hasn't completely failed, I have always used Puppy Linux to rescue data off Hard drives that are failing. It has a utility that allows you to mount selected partitions, then to copy the files either to a USB stick or external hard drive.

Cheers!
