[SOLVED] Help a NOOB with KNOPPIX 6.0.1

I am a total NOOB. I am trying to use KNOPPIX 6.0.1 to recover files from my Windows XP (which crashed). I have installed KNOPPIX 6.0.1 onto a CD and can use it to boot into my computer, but I don't know what to do next. Please help me.

Using USB?

OK, I found the files I want to save, but I can't seem to access my USB memory stick. Can anyone tell me how to get to my USB drive in a way a NOOB like me can understand?

This is for Ubuntu. I don't know if this will work in Knoppix though. Might be easier to burn a Ubuntu CD maybe?
