My Knoppix 3.7 disc boots ok then runs through my pc details
ending with the blue screen but the list of icons down the left
side are missing, is the disc faulty?

Knoppix 3.7 disc doesn`t complete the boot

Sorry, I don`t understand the abreviations KDE, WM. From what I have
read, the bootup should end with the blue screen and have accessible icons
down the lefthand edge denoting drives etc.
I do get to this blue screen but without these icons, also my mouse is
inoperative.

KDE is the standard windows manager (WM) in knoppix 3.7 About the icons im not so sure of, about the mouse being inoperative, i think in the boot screen to first boot knoppix, type "expert" itll ask you a series of questions, i think there should be a mouse option after it does some detailed detection, if so you may want to see what that is, it may configure it. I have gotten into something like this before. Hope this helps.

mechmaster, freezing in the hardware detection is exactly what Knoppix 3.7 is doing when i try to install it on my laptop. Is this something that you have seen before?

sometimes ...what is the last thing that is on the screen before it fails....IE: what was the last piece of hardware it tried to detect?

Knoppix on a presario

Hi there,
I do have a similar problem.

In my case, after knoppix displays the following messages
"Starting init process."
"INIT: version2.78-knoppix booting",
it then displays a sort of prompt and halts(I don't know if it is a prompt).

It is not because the cd is corrupted because I tried it on a friend's machine and it worked. Besides, the CDROM drive does not attempt to read any further so i am pretty sure the cd is not corrupted. i tried with bot Versions 3.6.x and 3.7.x but I am having the same problem.

My pc is a compaq presario 2200 laptop, 1400MHz Celeron-M, 60gb, 512MB Ram.

Hope someone can help me out.

Try booting with the ACPI functions disabled
Type the following at boot:
Code:
acpi=off
