Newbie ATI TV in doesn't work and hangs at eth0 on shutdown!

Hi all,
I've got 2 questions that need answers!!!
1. I'm using an ATI AIW 7500 and it the TV tuner programs don't recognize the TV/AV inputs and will not do a channel scan. So I had downloaded the Gatos ATI.2 binaries since someone had suggested it to me. Now I have no idea how to install them since Gatos explains that you have to extract to /usr but each time I try it says permission denied??? How do I get this to install since I am using my computer as my TV I had originally used the Live CD boot but now I've installed it!
2. I also seem to have a problem with shutdown it always hangs at eth0 and should continue on to eth1? I've also used Kanotix which had no problems with this but I like Knoppix better!
Thanks,
Rob
