please forgive stupid question from some one so new.

but i am trying to install software on a box using knoppix 3.8 installed to the hard drive.
every piece of sofware so far has worked fine to the best of my knowlage using the command

sh ./configure; make; make install

but for 1 i get the message

checking for Python header files... configure: error: Could not find Python.h in /usr/include/python2.3
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop.
make: *** No rule to make target `install'. Stop.

i found the file in usr/local/include/python2.4/Python.h

but how do i make the installer find it?
