Help with Read/Write Access

I have recently booted Knoppix 4.0 from CD so that I can rescue photos from my crashed laptop. Everything boted up fine, however when I go to copy the photos from the HD to a USB memory disk it says I do not have the write permissions to do so. I tried changing the folders properties to read/write access, however still does not work.

Any help appreciated.

if root is not the problem make sure you have the drive mounted with read write access

mount -o rw,remount /mnt/usbdrive
