Trying to install Cinelerra in Knoppix.

When I try to install Cinelerra it says I have to do something related to Debian. Any help would be appreciated as I am not good at downloading or installing. If someone could talk me through it that would really be helpful. The only things I have ever installed successfully are FlashPlayer and now WaveSurfer, a very simple yet flexible sound player, though I have tried to install many others.

Thanks ------ --------

P.S. I have Knoppix installed on my hard drive but I did not do that myself. I also have Mandrake installed, I can use it if that would be better.

The KPackage installer message is:

>st '...cinelerra.1.2.2-1.i386.rpm';echo RESULT=$?
rpm: to install cinelerra on Debian systems, use alien. See README. Debian.
error: cannot open Packages index using db3 - No such file or directory (2)
error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm
RESULT=1
