Welcome to the forums, Rita G.

If you are sure you have a good ISO and good burn to CD, try booting using some of the cheat codes that are available through the F-keys just before the CD actually begins to boot.

thank you ozar,
i tried:
knoppix noacpi acpi=off
knoppix noapic noacpi
failsafe
plus a few other (seemingly relevant from a newbie perspective) cheat codes, F2, F3, but it still hangs at Loading linux…………

Ive had some that wouldnt boot, and on several occasions, found scratches that were causing a read error. Its amazing how some movies play as scratched up as they are, and 1 speck kept them from booting. Something to check anyway, before you start pulling your hair out. And maybe try it on another machine just for grins.

The .iso you downloaded may be corrupt. Try checking the MD5 or downloading it again.
