Here's my menu.list, at least the part of it which is relevant. Windows XP is the default, above it is Kanotix. I also have 2 Gentoo kernels but I didn't feel like pasting all of that in:

default 2
timeout 15

title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.11-kanotix-11
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.11-kanotix-11 root=/dev/hda5 ro ramdisk_size=100000 lang=us apm=power-off nomce vga=0x317
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.11-kanotix-11
boot

title Windows 2K/XP/2003 (hda1)
chainloader (hd0,0)+1

Edit: But now that I think about it, if you installed Knoppix to HD, it should have configured this by itself. You might want to do a search on the forums, this has really been answered many times, look for 'dual boot'.
