Getting Broadcom wifi to work

Hey everyone.

I have a HP Pavilion Dv1000 with a broadcom chipset internal wifi, on Knoppix 3.9.

I have been using ndiswrapper and the drivers from hp's website. (as the ndiswrapper install docs say to.)

The driver is bcmwl5 and it loads fine. ndiswrapper -l displays bcmwl5 loaded, hardware found.

After I modprobe ndiswrapper dmesg says that ndiswrapper was loaded. However I do not see
Quote:
ndiswrapper: driver ''driver1'' added
in the dmesg as the ndiswrapper installation guide says I should.

I then do iwconfig and it says no wireless extentions found.

Hm I really do not know what else to do to get this to work. Can someone please help me out.

Thanks in advance!

Assign the driver to a device.

Code:
 ndiswrapper -d <device (listed in lspci-n)> <driver (e.g. bclm5.inf)>

actually I used that solution.

However it didnt work on Knoppix. I installed Gentoo and ndiswrapper worked fine. (I think modprobe wasnt working correctly on Knoppix because it would freeze half way through.)

Thanks though.
(if anyone else uses ndiswrapper make sure you use dhcpcd wlan0 to bring it up after.)
